Shear Sharpening
Just as with clipper blades, sharpening shears demands an experienced touch and an eye for detail to ensure seamless cuts every time. With a range of edges tailored to specific uses including dog grooming, hair stylists and barbers, each shear / scissor is different and requires different tools and techniques to restore them properly and help keep them performing at their peak. Straight shears, thinning shears, curved shears, chunkers, blunt-tip, beveled, or convex, we sharpen them all!
Inspection
Before sharpening shears, it's important for us to understand what type of hair they will be used to cut. This helps us to identify the proper edge required for the specific use. We examine the blades to ensure that they are straight and not bent or damaged. We also check the edges of the blades for nicks, chips, or dull spots. By inspecting the shears thoroughly before sharpening, we can ensure that they will be sharpened properly and perform well after sharpening.
Sharpening
After inspection, the shears are sharpened using a variety of different machines and techniques depending on the type of edge required. Hair stylists generally require a different edge than a dog groomer, and a dog groomer will require a different edge than a seamstress. We sharpen a variety of shears for different use-cases.
Final Touches
Once sharpened, the shears are polished and honed using specialized techniques and equipment, depending on their intended use. Some shears may require additional steps to optimize their cutting ability.
Does it pass the test?
Once the task is done, it's time to put those shears to the test! We test the cutting edge against a variety of materials depending on the use case. Only the ones that exceed our standards earn the right to be wrapped up with care and sent back to you.
